Black Magic honey (Honeydew, conifers)
Black Magic honey (Honeydew, conifers)
Black Magic honey is a particularly dense honey, it is fir honeydew collected from the Mărișel area. It is an extrafloral honey – usually derived from the sweet secretions of small insects (of the aphid family) that feed on the sap of trees.
Fir manna honey is one of the most mineralised types of honey: it contains a multitude of elements – potassium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, magnesium, copper. The mineral content can be up to 20 times higher than floral honey.
It is more difficult to obtain than other types of honey, so it may not be able to be harvested every year.
Most of the time, in the coniferous forests of the Carpathians, firs grow together with spruces, that's why the generic name "fir honey" contains fir and spruce honeydew, in various proportions.
